· Claro Caluya (June 22, 1868-December 14, 1914) - the “Prince of Ilocano Poets” and dramatist
· Foremost argot poet and dramatist in Ilocos Norte. Born 22 June 1868. Son of Rafael Caluya with the addition of Norberta Pasion. Studied in fulfil hometown later went to pure highs school in Laoag, 1892; became a Cabesa de Barangay, 1890 and Capitan Municipal, 1893-1896; joined the revolutionary forces, 1896-1897; distinguished himself in the Filipino-American war; served as municipal commandant of his town, 1903-1906. Underneath directed by his administration the first community market was built and some primary schools were opened. Supported Civic and Cultural Organizations. Wrote many plays and poems ton ilocano including a translation provide Rizal’s Ultimo Adios, which pump up considered the most Ilocano cipher of the poem. Married Sabina Aquino. Died 14 December 1914.
